BPL’s Get in the loop seems to be working

BPL ‘Get in the Loop

BPL the Mumbai based operator being managed by the Essar Group has just undergone a makeover; by breaking out of its blue and red “live wirefree” shell and adapting a multi-colored look to the brand. The new look aims at attracting the youth and adds new life to the brand. The new brand campaign named Get in the Loop having a fresh feel to it seems to be working quite well. But the success totally depends on how many of these targeted guys and gals actually opt for the service and get into the loop. Now to add some more gyaan, we did something we are good at. What else, give our two cents on their website.

Awesome Number, Bad Service? No Problem

A recent survey conducted showed that up to 50% of mobile users in India are unhappy with their current service providers. There are various reasons for the users not to change their service but the core reason is the number. And if you fall under the same category then we have some good news for you’ll. Sources suggest that Department of Telecom (DoT) is setting up the rules and regulations required for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). TRAI has been emphasizing the implementation of MNPs but now the involvement of DoT makes us to believe that it’s gonna happen soon.

BPL’s strive for customer delight

untitled2.bmp

BPL is trying its best at regaining its lost customers by launching new attractive schemes. Here is one, which BPL calls its Delight scheme. The scheme offers a monthly tariff i.e. basic rent of Rs. 150 and a clip charge of Rs. 50. The call charges are 60 paise to all numbers, both cellphone and fixed line. The SMS charges are Re.1 to all local numbers and Rs.2 and 5 for national and International SMS.

Overall the scheme is nice, but not that good to attract new customers. The possibility of its current customers changing over to this plan is high. Thus to try and attract new customers and turn non-BPL users to BPL, it has an option, which somehow may attract new customers. The plan provides an option of paying Rs. 777 as full years rent. The rent thus comes upto approximately Rs. 65 per month. Now this option is extremely beneficial to the customers be it a current BPL user or a non-BPL user. The rent is non refundable, but it eliminates all possible activation and documentation charges. Over and above this, the customer doesn’t have to keep any amount as an initial deposit.

We say

On the whole the plan is irresistible and thus hard to avoid giving a thought to. But major network glitches have made the name of the service provider lose its popularity and a major customer base. Once BPL succeeds in turning around this reputation into a positive one, such schemes would prove to be the best in the market. Thus this plan receives a thumb up from our side and thus we would recommend this one for a person who is currently using BPL as well as ones who would not have a problem paying 777 at a go and sticking to BPL for a while.

Airtel and Hutch plan to increase tariff rates opposed by TRAI

war1.JPG

On the 13th of this month the two giant operators of India had planned to increase their calling rates by about 20 paise. This would make the revised call rates for calls to same operator numbers increase to Rs. 1.2 compared to its Re. 1 rate. The plan was to be rolled out on Monday, with not many users actually known to the fact. The basic reason behind this was the increasing number of users joining the telecom revolution of India. The company said that with the increase in the users the operators could do nothing but increase the rates.

The hike in the rates was majorly in the prepaid area, with a similar hike in SMS rates for both prepaid and postpaid users. But the TRAI, which is the telecom regulator of India, didn’t find this step appropriate and thus has asked the giants to take back such plans.

TRAI believes that these price hikes are not consumer-friendly and transparent so it has asked the operators to roll back their SMS rates as the first step. If they do not do that, TRAI will enforce the reduction of rates by launching a new consultation process or issuing orders under its regulator act. TRAI has also warned the service providers that if they continue with the price hike then it would intervene further and ensure reduction in premium SMS rates as well for which these operators charge anywhere between Rs. 2 and Rs. 10.

Let’s Rock

Tata Indicom has launched a new prepaid scheme, which would cater to the youth. Quite evident by the name, it is an attempt to rope in teenagers just the same way Idea is trying with its “Mera wala Gang”.
