We recently saw MTS launching its CDMA services in the capital city of Delhi. Today MTS joined the intensifying tariff war by slashing down its STD rate to 1 paisa/sec across all networks. This new tariff is against the earlier 2 paise/sec tariff and would be implemented with immediate effect in the MTS circles of Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar-Jharkhand, Kolkata, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

The official company release said that, “STD will now be one paisa per second or 60 paise per minute (for lifetime) with the added benefit of per second billing. While STD calls from MTS will be charged at 1 paisa/sec, MTS to MTS local calls will be charged at 1 paisa/2 secs.”

Other big operators like Reliance, Airtel, Vodafone and Idea were seen slashing their local and STD tariffs earlier this week. With new operators joining the race, telecom operators are looking at wooing customers with lower tariffs and calling rates.

In today’s times when prepaid recharge vouchers are everywhere, MTS has gone a step further and has partnered with India post to make MTS recharge vouchers available across post offices in Chennai.

To start off with this new attempt to reach consumers, these vouchers will be initially available at 50 selected post offices and subsequently will cover all post offices in the city. MTS is sending SMSes to its customers in Chennai informing about this new tie-up. If wou have further information about this initiative then feel free to comment.

While most of Delhiites might know tomorrow about the entry of a new operator, MTS just announced to have launched their services in Delhi NCR region. The CDMA operator has got only prepaid plan for now, called as the Power of One which can be bought along with number of handsets.

The plan details are as follows:

SIM – Rs. 99
Talk Value – Rs. 10
Calls to Local MTS Mobiles – 1paisa/2 seconds
Calls to Other Mobiles & Landlines – 1paisa/ second
STD calls to all Mobiles and Landlines – 2paise/ second
Local SMS – 50paise
National SMS – Re.1
International SMS – Rs.5

MTS also has Msaver packs that deducts a nominal rental of Re. 1 each day that allows you to enjoy 50% off on local calls, STD calls or 100 SMSes every day.

For on-the-go internet users, MTS introduced high-speed EVDO modems, Mblaze that will be available in 19 cities.

MTS will provide unrestricted access to all commuters on Oct 9, Friday on the Delhi-Noida DND Flyway and Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. Both the expressways won’t charge any toll fees between 9:00- 11:00am and 5:00-8.00p.m.

It is for the first time that the DND flyover and the Gurgaon Toll Plaza will be opened to general public for free and unhindered access. We Say: Its definitely the first time we’ve seen a telecom operator doing like this and if we go by marketing’s perspective, it hits the nail on the head. Let’s hope they abide by their claim.
