Is Tata Teleservices really the best in Maharashtra?

Tata Indicom Logo

Official reports are out that TRAI has crowned Tata Teleservices as the best operator in Maharashtra. The telecom regulator did not experience even the slightest of congestion in its network review.

The news is quite shocking, as the CDMA operator is not so well known for its network. We at TeleGyaan truly think that the end users should be final deciders in such matters. We think that would reflect the reality.

Here is where YOU come into picture. Head to the comments below and give us a reality check. Is it really the best?

Tata Indicom Messenger

Social Networking seems to be the ‘in’ thing these days. And Tata Indicom seems to be taking this quite seriously. Tata’s first attempt being Mobile Blogging, which offered users access to social networking sites and allowed them to scrap, add/ share photos and flaunt status messages.

This time around, Tata has announced its own Messenger with its name clinged to it. The service is very close to the normal Instant Messenger, offering the same benefit on your phone. The added benefit being you can also IM your friends who aren’t online – the IM will be delivered as a message.

  • Download Source: Tata Zone
  • Cost: Rs.49 for a month
  • No additional charges
  • IM can be used only among Tata Indicom users

We say: Though the whole concept may seem interesting, it limits the users boundaries to Tata users. A Tata Indicom user would rather prefer to Mobile Blog (given he has the compatible handset) and access all his profiles over this service. But, given the decent need for the service among the young lot, this might just give the IM a run for its money.

Tata Indicom comes to J&K

Tata Indicom’s is marching towards their goal of attaining a pan-India presence. After launching their services in Assam a month before, Tata Teleservices have announced their services for the residents of Jammu & Kashmir. TTSL will bring in a variety of services like prepaid/postpaid mobile phone services, fixed wireless telephony (Walky Talky) and a lot more.

The first pack to be introduced will be the Go Active pack priced at Rs. 199 that will allow subscribers to call local Tata to Tata at 50 paise whereas STD calls at Re. 1.

The company has already installed 100 cell sites and injected over 100 crores worth of investment for seamless data and voice quality in the circle.

Tata Indicom rolls out services in Assam

Tata Indicom’s Platinum 2500 Plan

With corporate business phones becoming popular among the CXO’s of companies, Tata Indicom thought of giving them absolute freedom for the same. BlackBerry users or potential BlackBerry buyers would definitely opt for this one, provided they really use their phone to its limit.

This plan by Tata gives users the freedom to make as many calls, SMS’s and data usage as one can possibly dream of, because everything is free. What you would pay for would be outgoing calls while roaming (incoming is free).

We Say: On one hand the rental for the plan (Rs.2500) could seem to be exorbitant, we also need to consider that this one has been made for the classes and not the masses. For the busy Indian businessman or top executive, also the potential user of the plan, this wouldn’t be much of a concern, which is why we see this plan working well for Tata Indicom.

Tata Indicom launches a new ‘Radio Phone’

Tata Indicom has launched the first ever CDMA AM/FM enabled mobile phone. This new handset also comes with volume boosters (another new feature) for loud and clear sound. This radio phone is targeted towards the rural consumers to fulfill the need for music and is positioned to bridge the gap across markets.

The Tata Indicom Radio Phone has an AM/FM recorder and separate one touch keys for both the AM/FM functions. It also comes equipped with a 1.8-inch TFT screen for enhanced visibility and has Hindi SMS facility. It is also powered with a battery that provides a super long standby time to ensure that the users have an uninterrupted mobile music experience. The radio phone will be priced at Rs 2199 and will be available in different colour options.

Note: This phone is not listed on the Tata Indicom website. So details regarding the available colour options and pictures of the handset are not available as of now.

New SMS packs by Tata Indicom

Tata Indicom recently launched a couple of SMS packs for everyone to enjoy except the consumers from Maharashtra and Goa.

  • SMS All India Pack 100: Pay Rs.25 for a month and get 100 SMS’s (local and national) to any number
  • SMS All India Pack 1000: Pay Rs.50 for a month and get 1000 SMS’s (local and national) to any number

We say: The second one is definitely the preferred one, as it provides 10 times the number of SMS’s at two times the price. This is exactly how the operator is expecting the users to think and thus opt for the second one.

Now make STD calls at 50paise

Tata Indicomis making the Indian telecom scene quite competitive by introducing plans which raise the bar, by lowering prices. This one is for the Postpaid users who feel the need to make STD calls frequently. The pack, which costs Rs. 75 would provide STD calling to selected zones at 50paise. Here are the details:

  • Western Zone:Mumbai, Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Chhatisgarh
  • South Zone: Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala
  • North Zone:Himachal, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and UP.
  • East Zone:Kolkatta, Bihar, Orissa and rest of West Bengal

These are the zones one can choose from and avail STD calling at low cost. According to us, one must weigh the approximate number of minutes he/she would call and then check whether it would really benefit them. This pack works for people using STD quite frequently.

Mumbai to have 4 more operators

The most attractive and the most happening circle in India is set to accommodate 4 new service providers. Mumbai is what we are talking about and the 4 new service providers are Tata Teleservices (with it’s GSM offering), Videocon (Datacom Solutions), Unitech Wireless and Swan Telecom.

Amongst the 4, only the first one would be an existing player, with the latter being new entrants into the market. The penetration in the circle is about 70% and with new entrants coming in, the market seems to be getting heated up. There are also possibilities of a dip in charges with increasing competition.
