India breaking its own records – to add a Crore subscribers every month

September 4, 2007 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

India’s hunger for mobile services is increasing by the day. As I write this post, there would be about a thousand connections already joining the league. Yes this is a truth. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) announced yesterday that India currently adds about 70 lakh new subscribers every month. This isn’t all. The COAI says that by this December India would break its own record and add a whopping one crore subscribers a month. That means 3,33,333 connections sold every day, 13,888 sold every hour and about 231 sold every minute. Aren’t these figures startling??

The lot of new subscribers is coming from none other than rural India. The hunger is growing and service providers have to step up and feed this ever growing hunger.
