Thinking Hatke – Is it Working?

March 28, 2008 By Rohan Kamath 3 Comments

Becoming a lesbian just to let ur parents allow u to go for a trip, making ur friend ur “pappa” and playing a call girl just to earn that extra 10 paise. That’s truly hatke. The Virgin Mobile ads are all over the TV and are getting people talking. There’s a great buzz about the whole ad thingy, but is it really effective? Only time will say. With great offers being provided by the service provider, we personally don’t see any reason why one shouldn’t switch over to Virgin.

According to us, here are few reasons why the Indians won’t switch over to Virgin:

  • We really love our number it’s like a part of our identity

  • We are the loyal types (at least in mobile services)

  • We anticipate further reduction in prices and thus don’t switch

  • We truly believe in trust and won’t take up a new operator till we have full faith in him.

Ya, we might sound quite orthodox here, but this is what India is and I guess at least one of those reasons is why u aren’t switching over to Virgin Mobile.

PS: we hope u are taking note of this Mr. Branson. I think it’s us who are truly Hatke.

    Rohan,
    Hi Rohan,
You can use the videos of http://youtube.com/thinkhatke

As you have mentioned the Virgin Mobile India ads have been truly hatke.
However, I would like to reply to the points out forward by you, that can prevent the Indian from switching over to Virgin.
(1.)We really love our number it’s like a part of our identity
-Well, after Number Portability, it shouldn’t be a problem.

(2.)We are the loyal types (at least in mobile services)
    – Ohh come on. Are you serious? Most of my friends are frustrated form their connections. And I have friends using almost all the existing connections. Many of them are actually looking forward to switching their provider in the new future.

(3.)We anticipate further reduction in prices and thus don’t switch
    – Further reduction in price isn’t necessary reason enough to cling on to your existing connection

(4.)We truly believe in trust and won’t take up a new operator till we have full faith in him.
    – Again, I don’t think thats a general sentiment. Remember the super success of Reliance Mobile when it debuted?
Virgin Mobile is being very aggressive on the marketing. As you yourself pointed out, the ads have been successful in getting the public attention. I think, when it debuts, they are going to get a decent opening.

Anyways, these are still just my opinions.

BTW, Virgin Mobile India is on other social n/w sites too..
