Ad Gyaan: Airtel Voice SMS

November 5, 2008 By Rohan Kamath 6 Comments

“I Miss you so much, It hurts….” Yes, we are talking about the new Airtel Voice SMS commercial that you must have come across on TV. What the ad tries to do, is rope in people to use the Voice SMS service on offer, as a substitute to the normal SMS. The USP would definitely be the ‘jazbaat’ or the ‘feeling’ that is added to an SMS, which you could not do with a normal SMS.

Though the idea has been put across fairly well, the service could find very less takers. SMS is generally used for short and precise communication and if I wanted the recipient to hear my voice, I would rather call. Anyways, if you’re still interested in using the service, add a star (*) before dialing a number and record your SMS. Each Voice SMS is charged at 75 paise.

    @It is not from airtel to airtel only. You can send voice sms to people on other networks. Only catch is the other person will have to dial a specified number to listen to your message. Guess what..he will have to pay standard calling charges for the above.

    @Telegyaan,

    The service is not quite useless as it saves you the pain of typing the message. There are some more interesting situations where you will find this voice sms service quite useful. I have covered some of those in my post at

    @ Sanjay,

    Hmm … Thats your claim. I believe, there’s a considerable service lag from MTNL in its basic services – I guess no one really cares about VAS it offers. Getting a call through and getting it right I guess is more important a case with MTNL. And none of the MTNL Cellular users I know, know about this service. You really get worked up at times!
    Nothing personal but Its a fact, Airtel is much better than MTNL !
