A recent survey conducted showed that up to 50% of mobile users in India are unhappy with their current service providers. There are various reasons for the users not to change their service but the core reason is the number. And if you fall under the same category then we have some good news for you’ll. Sources suggest that Department of Telecom (DoT) is setting up the rules and regulations required for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). TRAI has been emphasizing the implementation of MNPs but now the involvement of DoT makes us to believe that it’s gonna happen soon.
What is MNP?
Mobile Number Portability means that if a person wishes to change his service provider, he can change the service without his current number getting changed and also get the privileges of the new operator. This could prove a real boon to the customers as this can rise to efficient services of the providers who take their customer base for granted. On the other hand, introduction of MNP would mean investing thousands of crores by telcos to upgrade their networks.
MNP will be first launched in A category telecom circles such as Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra followed by other telecom circles.
