Pre feeded numbers on the Sim Card are useless

September 7, 2007 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

Starting from this month, TRAI had ordered all the service providers to add an extra digit to all the special numbers (a 5 before all the numbers). But to the dismay of the service providers, it has affected the live services that they were previously offering. The subscribers received the message that these numbers in your Contacts which include, Bouquet, Cricket, Travel, Hotel, etc. have been pre feeded into your sim card and this is precisely what is causing a problem.

The numbers in your contact list are incorrect as the new numbers have a 5 added as the first number. So whenever you call these numbers, you wouldn’t be able to get the required service. Thus the companies which are a part of such value added services market are losing out on their business. There are plans to replace the old sim cards with the updated ones, because of the fact that the revenue of this business is a whopping Rs. 4,560 crores.

But one question remains. Why would operators issue new sim cards. That’s because of just one reason that the operators have a revenue share of 60% from such services thus adding a huge sum to their business.
