Vodafone Nokia launch N97 in India

The Nokia N97 was launched in India and the operator partnering the launch was none other than Vodafone. The two companies have come together to introduce the new age phone which will lock horns against the iPhone and its likes. The added advantage for a user buying the bundled Vodafone offering are as follows::

  • Free data plan for 3 months of browsing the internet
  • Exclusive access to ‘The Groove’, a widget that keeps you updated on the latest happenings

As for the phone, you get a full touch screen phone with accelerometer and handwriting recognition. In addition, the phone is equipped with a 5MP Carl Zeiss camera, 32GB storage capacity which can expanded to 48GB via microSD card, A-GPS and 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity.

All of this is expected to cost you a whopping Rs.35,000, however, the prices haven’t been confirmed.

Airtel’s Nokia 5800 XpressMusic promotion

Airtel is playing the handy role of a marketer to sell Nokia’s 5800 XpressMusic phone. Today, I received a mail from them saying they had a ‘great’ offer for me. However, my expectation of some monetary waiver was short-lived because the greatness in the offer was not monetary but was emphasized on services. Purchasing the phone from any Nokia Priority Dealer or The MobileStore, a user will be eligible for:

    100MB free data usage for first three months
    Free 1 month subscription of 4 VAS services – EZmail, Matrimonial, Portfolio Manager, News and Sports
    The complimentary card to get a Rs. 400 discount on any Bluetooth accessory purchased along with the phone

We Say: Nice try Airtel but the offer ain’t that good to make me jump into the XpressMusic bandwagon. Offering some discount off the phone rather than the accessories might have made me interested.

Nokia Advertising Network ties with Airtel

Nokia has been expanding from its handset manufacturing niche to a new media agency for advertising on mobile phone applications and websites. In other words, the network will offer advertising on the mobile internet and innovative ad units within mobile applications. For this initiative, Nokia has roped in a deal with Airtel to show ads in India. This means we can see ads showing up on Airtel’s Live page or even be promoted to download free Nokia apps like Mosh, Widsets and so on.

The success rate totally depends on the number of mobile internet users but Nokia is optimistic of getting a high clickthrough rate (CTR) of 10%.

Idea ties up with Nokia to offer N96

Idea Cellular have tied up with the world’s largest mobile handset maker, Nokia to take on Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar. Idea cellular and Nokia will together bring in the Nseries flagship phone, N96 which is considered the biggest competition to the Apple iPhone. iPhone as many of us are aware is available exclusively on Airtel and Vodafone networks.

N96 will be available on Idea network from September. The dual slider handset has a 2.8 inch screen and comes with 16 GB storage space, expandable to 24GB. User can store up to 18,000 songs and over 20,000 images at 5 mega pixel, 20 full-length movies or nearly 60 hours of video.

Idea’s partnership with Nokia also extends to other mid and high-end handsets from the Finnish giant’s stable besides the Nseries. Idea plans to introduce attractive offers and new tariff plans, on various devices, starting with the N96.
