4Play of a different sort

April 30, 2008 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

We all know about Virgin Mobile’s image, which has been moulded and shaped to appeal to Indian youth. With the brands ads catching up with the people, the lingo being used is also being shaped to suit the target audience.

Putting it in simple words, the operator has launched its ‘Laughter Zone’ that users can call and listen to jokes and scenes from movies, and has called it 4play. We all know what that means in the literal sense, and thus works out for the operator too. The site shouts out “Have lots of Masti and 4Play” which gets the dirty minds working and clicking.

We guess the new ways to market are clicking with the youth and are here to stay. We hope to see many more making their way out of Virgin’s hat.

BPL’s 20-20 tactics

April 30, 2008 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

BPL

With IPL fever gripping the nation, Mumbai operator BPL tried and seized the opportunity. With BPL supporting the Mumbai Indians, it is trying to sway all users to support the team too. This is done by providing users with free SMS and talktime minutes each time Mumbai Indians hit a six, four or take a wicket. Here is how it works out:

Subscribe by: SMS ‘mum’ to 50505

Each six hit = 6 free local SMS

Each four hit = 4 minutes of local BPL2BPL

Mumbai team wins = the above offer gets doubled

Subscribe before the match starts [Read more…] about BPL’s 20-20 tactics

A new Price War – This time it’s Airtel

April 29, 2008 By Rohan Kamath 2 Comments

Bharti Airtel announced that it would go in for a decrease in Roaming charges and rates. This step is seen to start off a price war. We have seen such price tiffs between the operators. To be specific, the STD charges would be dropped down to Rs.1.5 and the roaming charges would go down by 43%.

The immediate effect of the step would be announcements from competing operators. Since the market works on such rules, one can predict the effects that would follow. Seems that Reliance is all ready with a brand new strategy to combat this step taken by Airtel.

Tata Teleservices in three new circles

April 7, 2008 By yogen 1 Comment

North East, Assam and Jammu & Kashmir will get another mobile operator in their telecom circles in the form of Tata Indicom. The government has allocated additional CDMA spectrum to Tata Teleservices for these three circles.

These three circles are presently being ruled by operators like Reliance, BSNL, Airtel and Aircel having a combined subscriber base of about 7 million mobile users. Now-a-days metros and urban cities are getting saturated that is why operators like Tata Indicom are moving towards C circle states to keep up the pace of their growth.

For Tata Teleservices, this additional spectrum will enable it to expand its presence in all the 22 Circles across the country making it a pan India operator. At present, Bharti Airtel and Reliance are the only operators with a pan India presence. Tata Teleservices will be in a position to launch services in the three Circles by the end of this year.

April 6, 2008 By Kunal Gangar Leave a Comment

The week’s been dry with starting from a special corporate plan from Vodafone. The plan is pretty enticing if you have most calls on Vodafone. Next up is the April Fools prank which many of the readers thought it was true.

If existing players were not enough, Videocon has made their intentions clear that they are serious about this new venture. And finally there’s some ray of hope for 3G services coming soon as Airtel successfully tests it.

April 1, 2008 By Kunal Gangar 2 Comments

It gives me immense pleasure as well as an emotional feeling to announce that Tele Gyaan has been taken over Virgin Mobile. No need to read it twice, its true. I cannot disclose the exact amount but its enough for the three of us who have been toiling hard to make Tele Gyaan what it is now. So what can you expect from this take over?

Well, I know this doesn’t go very well to many of them out there but we’ll just be publishing articles about Virgin Mobile. That’s why we were paid for, isn’t it? The good news is our editorial staff will still be intact but we’ll show you’ll the true Virgin power. That’s it for now.
