September 11, 2007 By yogen 7 Comments

Mobile Store

We have already mentioned and compared different 199 plans offered by different service providers. Now Airtel has launched a promotional 199 plan which is called the Value 199 Plan. But before we tell you’ll the features of this plan let us first look at the conditions that the user needs to fulfill before selecting this plan.

First of all this plan is a limited time scheme available only at The Mobile Store. So you cannot get this plan by going at any of the Airtel gallery. Secondly, this plan is available only to customers who are either shifting from prepaid to postpaid or who are buying a new postpaid connection, so existing postpaid users cannot shift to this plan. In a way this can be termed as Airtel‘s new strategy to increase its postpaid subscriber base.

SMS Packs in Airtel Prepaid

September 10, 2007 By Kunal Gangar 37 Comments

This piece of news would surely excite all SMS junkies like me. If you’ll are aware then Airtel has been offering their promotional SMS pack of 2000 message for 49 bucks and at other prices. Unfortunately, this scheme was offered to select prepaid numbers.

But today talking to the customer executive, he said that a normal recharge of different denominations would give me a SMS pack albeit it would be expensive than the promotional packs. Right now, the available options are of Rs. 11 giving 25 messages with 7 days of validity, Rs. 48 with 150 messages or Rs. 102 with 500 messages both coming with a month’s validity.

To avail any of these SMS packs just ask your local Airtel dealer to E-recharge your account with any of the above denominations and the SMS pack would be activated.

1+1 free for Airtel Postpaid users

September 7, 2007 By yogen Leave a Comment

There’s some good news for Airtel postpaid users. Airtel is offering an additional postpaid connection to their existing postpaid users for free. Now the USP of this free card is that the inter calling charges between these two numbers will be 10ps/min. The rental for the new connection is Rs. 150 along with which the CLIP service charges are waived off. Calls and SMS to all other Local networks will be for Re. 1. This scheme is a limited time offer so to avail it contact your nearest airtel dealer immediately.

We say
If you are an existing Airtel postpaid user and are planning to buy a new connection this is the time to buy it as the connection is offered for free; no sim card cost, no registration fees, no deposit. Even if you do not like the above billing plan you can always change it and shift to one which suits your needs.

Airtel doubles its GPRS charges

September 2, 2007 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

Airtel has always managed to stay ahead of the lot by taking out great deals from its hat. It did the same when they launched their GPRS schemes. Currently there are two options available. Only mobile surfing is charged at Rs. 2 per day and a full fledged surfing which can be connected to PCs is charged at Rs. 7 per day. Thus for a person who do not surf for more than 2-3 hours, it proved great value for money for them as it provided connectivity to your desktop and laptop.

This scheme is a good deal for people who are just into surfing and chatting. But now, Airtel is sending SMSes to its users saying that this charge of Rs.7 would be increased to Rs. 14.99. If you do the math then at Rs.7 per day works out to be about Rs. 210 per month, a user could get a good deal because a basic connection from an internet provider could come upto Rs. 250 for a pathetic speed. But in the new case the monthly charge comes upto Rs. 450. Now I use a 64 kbps unlimited net connection for Rs. 500 and if one considers limited plans, one could get about 128 kbps for the same.

We Say

Personally using this scheme, the present speed is really below par. But if increasing the rates would give better speed than this hike is welcomed. However, if the speed is as bad as now, then only God save Airtel from retaining its GPRS subscribers.

Airtel face music from TRAI

August 28, 2007 By Kunal Gangar Leave a Comment

Airtel Logo

If a child makes a mistake, it’s the duty of his mother to discipline the child. It is the same case with TRAI and Airtel where Airtel is the spoilt child. TRAI has asked Airtel to remove its short code numbers which Airtel uses to promote for its Value Added Services (VAS). According to TRAI, Airtel has violated TRAI regulations of national numbering plan which is given to every service provider.

Within a week, Airtel has to comply with the plan and discontinue services like Marathi Mobile Radio?, Ringtone Genie etc. in Maharashtra and Goa circle. That’s not enough. Other services like Voice Chat in Bihar, Airtel FM in UP and other services in different parts of the country will also have to be discontinued.

Chat with Ur pals on Airtel Messenger

August 15, 2007 By Rohan Kamath 1 Comment

Airtel Messenger

With social communities and messengers gaining importance in the life of the youth, Airtel thought of having the same when you are on the move. This gives you’ll the power to chat with your buddies through GPRS. The Airtel Messenger is available for Rs. 30 per month and is compatible with GPRS enabled phones. There’s a flash preview making it easy for the customers to understand and use. The Messenger needs to be downloaded first and then one can add his/ her buddies and create a buddy list.

What’s great is, that Airtel is offering this service free of cost to its customers till the 31st of this month. So go ahead and try it out.

We Say

This is a great concept and since about 40-45% of the mobile phones sold in the Indian market are GPRS enabled, Airtel has made a good move to move along the needs of the ever-demanding customers.
