Highest ever addition in the wireless segment

December 24, 2007 By yogen 1 Comment

It is no secret that telecom users are increasing by leaps and bounds. But as per the latest report released by TRAI, November 2007 has been the best one. It saw the highest ever addition of 8.32 million subscribers in the wireless telecom segment against 8.05 million subscribers added in the month of October 2007. This results in a total of 225.46 million subscribers base at the end of November 2007.

At the same time the number of subscribers in the wireline segment has decreased to 39.31 million in the month of November 2007 as against 39.41 million subscribers in October 2007. These figures clearly indicate the reason, why more and more companies are joining the telecom race in the wireless segment. The trend is slow but consistently shifting from the wireline users to the wireless users.

It’s Chrismas time and operators are not showering offers as expected. But Vodafone tries it’s hand at giving it’s users some benefit by providing users with 50% discounts on international calls. This comes a day before Christmas and Vodafone expects a lot of calls being made to near and dear one’s abroad. To put it in simpler terms for calls which were being charged at Rs. 6.4 would be available or charged at Rs. 3.2.

This offer is valid for areas like USA, Canada, South East Asia and fixed lines of Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The catch here is that the offer is valid only for the first 10 minutes of your ISD calls to the above mentioned countries. The bright side of it being that the benefits of the scheme can be availed for 2 billing cycles.

Star’s shining for Airtel

Airtel has always been using television as one of the important media vehicles. With media space becoming expensive day by day Airtel has taken a step in the right direction. It has managed to ink a deal with the Star network spanning over a period of twelve months. The deal provides Airtel with media space on the Star network at rates which would be mutually agreed upon and on the other side the deal provides Star network with the assurance of the space being taken.

As such it’s a deal, which works wonders for the two giants. Considering the fact that Star’s network consists of channles which are viewed by varied groups of consumers, Airtel would have a good chance of exposure to a wide consumer base. The deal is a clear example of dual advantage deals, more of which would be seen in the years to come.

Tata Indicom today introduced 2 new prepaid schemes, one priced at Rs. 199 and the other priced at Rs. 299.

The 199 prepaid pack comes with one-year validity and a talktime of Rs.2. It offers local calling rates of 40 paise a minute (for home network), 50 paise a minute (for other mobile networks) and Re.1 a minute for landline; but there is a daily rental of Re.1 to avail the above stated calling rates. The 299 prepaid pack comes with two years of validity other things remaining constant.

Vodafone not a HIT among users

December 10, 2007 By Rohan Kamath 3 Comments

Vodafone’s entry into India was one of the biggest and the costliest one. After all the rebranding exercises and other supporting stuff, the brand hasn’t managed to keep it’s users happy. We are not the one who are shouting but a poll going on in one of the Vodafone’s community at Orkut which has over 52 thousand members. Of course the number of votes in the poll is pretty less than the total members but come on, everyone needs to be happy. Isn’t it?

Reason cited by them is that Vodafone lifted all the offers which Hutch was offering prior to the name change.

PS:If you’ve had a problem with the operator, do let us know about it. We will be happy to uncover the problems you face.

Vodafone Essar launches ‘Sambhav Card’

December 5, 2007 By yogen 2 Comments

Mobile service provider Vodafone Essar today announced the launch of a new prepaid card called ‘SAMBHAV’. This card has been specially designed for customers with hearing and speech disability. This card enables customers to use their mobile phones primarily for sending SMS’s.

This scheme offers usage of 500 SMS’s for a cost of Rs. 151 and validity of a month. So if you calculate the cost per SMS it comes to around 30 paise which is quite low for a prepaid scheme. Here it can be also seen that the company is trying to be socially responsible by bringing out a scheme specially for the 1.2 million deaf and dumb people of India.

Being morally responsible is a good thing but if we see the other way, many customers who texts a lot can gain from this irrespective of their disability.
