The Good Value 199 Plan does not come under the category of official plans which are listed on their website nor it comes under the Corporate banner. It is in fact a REQUEST based plan. 3G policy out this week?

July 30, 2008 By Kunal Gangar 1 Comment

The stage is set for Friday. With the iPhone 3G’s release drawing nearer it is no doubt that companies would be pressurizing the government to roll out 3G policy soon. But for the record, there are many other 3G devices available in the market than iPhone. But it can be the popularity of the phone which has increased the 3G policy momentum.

Anyways, it is expected that there will be 10 players battling out in the 3G arena and the price set for pan-India license is Rs. 2,200 crore which we think only BSNL, Airtel and Vodafone will be eyeing on. Apart from that, WiMax and Mobile Number Portability policies are also rumored to be announced. We’ll let ya know as more details emerge.

Airtel Triple 3 Plan

July 28, 2008 By Rohan Kamath 4 Comments

We’ve heard of 299, 399 999. But this one is a bit different. This one is a 333 Plan by Airtel, with the number signifying the monthly rental you will have to shell out each month. Let’s have a look at the plan details:

  • Monthly Rental: Rs.333
  • Local calling to Airtel networks: 50paise
  • Local calls to other networks: 75paise
  • STD calls to all networks: Rs.1.5
  • Local SMS: 50paise
  • National SMS: Rs.1.5
  • Free 111 local minutes to Airtel
  • Free 111 Local minutes to all mobiles
  • Free 111 Local SMS

We say: It gives us great pleasure to see free calling and SMS to all networks being provided by Airtel. Though it doesn’t seem much, it would be beneficial when it comes to paying your bill. This one passes our test and gets a thumbs up, thanks to affordable calling and messaging rates.

Week Round Up

July 27, 2008 By Kunal Gangar Leave a Comment

Monday: The week started with BPL Mobile’s Corporate offering. They are providing with their version of full value corporate plan.

Tuesday: There is a cat and mouse game going on to become India’s largest service provider. As Airtel is swiftly moving around the 70 million customers mark, CDMA giant RCom has announced their arrival in to the league of 50 million customers. Kudos to them as they are the fifth operator in Asia to do so.

Wednesday: After the recent fiasco occurred in the last week, Airtel will be expanding their traffic carrying capacity so their users will have to bear less inconvenience the next time! Or shall we say no inconvenience?

iPhone has been launched in numberous countries but India is still left out as we can see no sign of the exact release date. Well TechTree tries to get ourselves interested in their exclusive report where they think, August is the month where we see the best phone in the market.

Thursday: Full Value 199 plans are at galore. But this one from Vodafone is with a difference which offers an add-on card along with other benefits.

Friday: Users are complaining about Vodafone’s secretive trade practices. After reducing the STD rates they have now hiked back the rates without informing the customers.

Vodafone hikes STD rates without any intimation

July 25, 2008 By Kunal Gangar 2 Comments

We smell more trouble for Vodafone. It is being reported that the STD rates which were previously charged at Rs. 1.30/minute are now been charged at Rs. 1.50/minute. The hike doesn’t seem to be a major problem with the customers but it is in fact the discreet way which Vodafone adopted to change the rates is pissing off the customers.

We cannot confirm about the rest of India but prepaid users in Mumbai are facing this.

Vodafone add-on Full Value 199 Plan

July 24, 2008 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

Here’s one more full value plan to the fray. If you have an existing Vodafone connection and need a new one for one of your family member, we have got a deal for you. The Plan is a modified version of the Full Value 199 Plan. The details are as follows:

  • Monthly Rental: Rs.199
  • Free Calling: 200 minutes on all networks
  • Free SMS: 250 for 1st month to all networks
  • Call rates: 50paise to all networks

The Plan also provides for calling at 10paise between the add-on number and the original number, both ways. This plan goes well if you need an add-on card. Also with free calls and SMS to all networks, it gets a good rating from our side.

PS: Such plans are not a part of the Vodafone original plans list, thus you won’t find these on the site.

iPhone 3G

Some anonymous source for TechTree have spilled the beans regarding the launch date and pricing for iPhone 3G in India. It may come as a shock for many people but the source reckons the phone to be priced around Rs. 12,000 range but only 8GB variant will be available. Vodafone will be the first player to get the phone here because of its global presence and has a 15 days advantage than Airtel.

> Model: Initially, the 8GB version only
> Price: Rs. 11,500 to Rs. 12,000 (note: U.S. price of the 8GB iPhone 3G is $199)
> Applications: App Store will be available
> App prices: Application prices may see a revision to suit Indian market
> 3G: No fixed date for 3G availability; expected sometime later this year
> GPS: Present on the Indian version as well

The news has definitely opened up a new discussion for everyone waiting for the mighty iPhone to come over here but we cannot trust it until we hear it from the horse’s mouth.
