Loop Mobile introduces its own Bazaar

March 19, 2009 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

Loop (BPL) Mobile has launched its very own online bazaar called as Mobile Bazaar. Currently on offer are some T-shirts with wacky lines, wrist watches, perfumes and electronics. However, none of the products being sold here seem to be branded and are being offered at cheap prices (except the electronics).

We personally think that the products on offer aren’t great at all and selling it online makes it even worse. We do not see many users coming to Loop’s Bazaar and buying stuff and won’t be surprised if it shuts shop in sometime.

8.12 million GSM users added in December 08

January 13, 2009 By Rohan Kamath 3 Comments

The economic slowdown hasn’t affected the Indian telecom industry much, quite evident by the above mentioned numbers. Against 7.62 million users being added in November, December witnessed a healthy growth in these numbers – with 8.12 million users being added. This converts into a growth rate of 3.25%, which is marginally lower than the same clocked in the previous month – 3.32%. Here are the specifics of how each operator contributed to this growth:

  • Airtel: 2.7 million
  • Vodafone: 2 million
  • Idea: 1 million
  • BPL Mobile: 65 thousand
  • BSNL:8 lakh

At the end of December, the strength of the total user base (GSM) stands at 258 million, with Bharti Airtel leading the market with its 33.22% market share. The operator is followed by Vodafone at 23.63% share of the GSM market. The month saw all operators clocking positive growth, with the exception of BPL which saw its additions go into the red.

SMS and Call rates to reduce further

December 14, 2008 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

It’s been about a year since TRAI, the telecom regulator, has asked operators to reduce SMS charges. However, with the Telcos not doing much about it, the regulator is all set to take some action, if the operators turn a deaf ear this time around. Apart from this, TRAI is of the view that the Indian user is being exploited on the ‘calling’ front. Users have been complaining of calls getting cut due to network problems and thus having to pay for a whole minute even if the call lasted for 10 seconds.

The regulator is all set to put pressure on the Telcos, which eventually lead to SMS charges witnessing a decrease and operators taking necessary steps to strengthen their connectivity. If this is not possible we might see some operators reducing pulse rate, which currently stands at 60 seconds. This has been done by players like BPL, who had a one second pulse rate i.e. you are only charged for the number of seconds you spoke. On the whole, the future looks bright and cheap for the Indian users.

BPL Mobile users facing network problems

September 24, 2008 By Rohan Kamath 1 Comment

Recently, BPL Mobile users in Mumbai have been facing strange problems in sending SMSes. There have been complaints about the messages not reaching the person on the other end and also cases of the sender receiveing the delivery report without it being sent. Some users have been complaining about messages reaching them in bulk i.e. the messages that were sent to them during the day are recieved together in the night.

With BPL always being associated with bad network, the new problem has left the users quite harassed. As per one subscriber, their problems are not being addressed by the authorities, who claim about the absence of any problems. We would request you to come forward and let us know if you have faced such problems.

BPL Mobile’s M-Commerce

May 27, 2008 By Rohan Kamath 12 Comments

Airtel had launched MChek, the service which allowed users to pay their phone bills through SMS. BPL Mobile has now gone a step further and has launched M Commerce, short for Mobile Commerce. This service allows you to:

  • View and pay BPL bills
  • Recharge your mobile account
  • Book Airline, Train tickets
  • Book Movie tickets
  • Carry out online transactions – HDFC

How to download:

  • SMS ngpay to 56767 or download from NGPay
  • Just download the application and start using

How much do you pay: The users don’t have to pay any charge to download or use the application. The service would cost you nothing, except the basic GPRS charges, that are charged by your operator.

What’s your take on the topic? Share your views on TeleGyaan Forums.
