Tata Indicom launched the RCV 1100 Prepaid plan for its users in the NCR region. In line with Tata Indicom’s great value for money plans, this one too will not let you down. Here is a look at its components:

  • Cost: Rs.1100
  • Talktime: Rs.996.74
  • Validity: 101 days
  • Free Incoming calls for a year
  • 1100 minutes of  local Tata to Tata calling FREE

The plan has been launched by the operator in order to retain its position (2nd) in the circle.

We Say: Firstly, the plan gives users a good talktime amount – Rs.996 for the amount they are paying. Also, this plan would work wonders for users who talk on-net (T2T) more than calling other networks. Overall, the plan does not have any cons and offers good value for money.

Aircel to pump in $5billion for expansion – enters Hyderabad!

March 14, 2009 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

In an attempt to fuel its expansion plans and make its presence felt in the Telecom market, Aircel has planned to inject $5bn into its business. This announcement came along with the operators expansion into the Hyderabad circle. Aircel is currently a part of Malaysia-based Maxis Communications Bhd and has a subscriber base of 17mn users.

Here’s what Aircel has planned:

  • The operator plans to invest $10bn into its operations this year.
  • $5bn is expected to be diverted into its Hyderabad operations.
  •  Aircel also plans to step foot in the northern belt – Delhi and UP as well as Maharashtra.
  • This will take the count to 18 circles by the end of next month.
  • The operator also has set optimistic goals of doubling its subscriber base by the end of the year.

We Say: The operator is being well backed by Maxis and has plans to expand in circles, which might help meet its objectives. Though doubling its user base might be difficult, it is never impossible. We can only wait and watch.

MTNL’s pan-India plans go bust

February 28, 2009 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

State owned MTNL had plans to span its wings all across India for which it had submitted a proposal to the DoT. However, the Telecom body turned down this proposal. MTNL has its operations in Mumbai and Delhi and BSNL, the other state owned telco has its foothold all across India except these two circles. The ministry would not like to see two state run players fighting it out in the same circle, which is why the decision could have been taken.

However, ailing MTNL says that the decision will not affect its business much. This might not be the case as Mumbai and Delhi are among the most saturated circles. The operator says that it would like to further strengthen its foothold in the two markets.

mtnl-3g

MTNL officially becomes the first operator in India to launch commercial 3G services in the Delhi region. However, having the first mover advantage, MTNL is trying to cash in by setting the price a bit higher that would deprive many to enjoy the 3G advantages. Remember, 3G network operates on a totally different band and provides faster data speeds as well as good voice quality.

  • Rs.40 voucher for 1 month validity

Plan 2: Local calling @ 60paise: For local calling

  • Calls to Airtel numbers at 50 paise
  • Calls to other networks at 60 paise
  • Rs.124 voucher for a 3 month validity

October 1, 2008 By yogen 11 Comments

RCom announced on Sunday that it has commenced its GSM network across Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Surat, Lucknow and Ludhiana on a test basis by providing approximately 10,000 test SIM cards to its employees.

Talking about Mumbai, RCom has invested around Rs. 800 crore in Mumbai for setting up 2,500 towers and other necessary infrastructure. RCom would be the second player after Idea Cellular to launch its GSM services in the city in this year. It is expected that RCom will open its services for public by the end of this year.

Also another speculation making rounds is that Tata Teleservices are also planning to launch their GSM services around the same time, although no official announcement is made by Tata’s telecom arm.
