BSNL offers cool deals from October 1

September 30, 2007 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

BNSL Logo

BSNL is celebrating the organisations foundation along with the birth anniversary of Bapu. This gives them a reason to do something that would benefit the masses. This calls for great deals up for grabs, which includes a list of them:

Firstly BSNL is waiving its connection charge of Rs. 500 to the people who would be applying for a new landline or WLL connection in this Party Week. To back this it would also be providing free sim cards to the people on the 2nd of October only at the General Manager’s office. But things don’t come so easily, one has to remit a service tax of a whopping Rs. 12, which would not be a problem considering what you are getting in return.

Now this plan also comes with another plan of stepping up the image of the operator by using a common logo for the service provided by them and also trying to ease the process of paying bills. Here the operator would deploy selling agents to accept cheques and demand drafts in order to pay bills definitely trying to add a personal touch to the process.

What we would say is that the operator has made the best use of the patriotic feel in the air in India and thus making the best of it through Bapu’s birthday. Nice one BSNL…

Palm Treo 750

Palm Inc. on 25th September announced the launch of its Palm Treo 750 smartphone in India under collaboration with Airtel. It would be the first Windows based Treo phone to be launched in India.

The Treo 750 is a multi featured mobile phone with e-mail, messaging, web browsing and organisation software. This smartphone is also capable of 3G facilities for fast data access but it is of no use in India as our operators are still struggling to get the 3G license.

The phone will cost Rs. 27000 but will be unlocked. That means you can buy the phone from Airtel and use any other operator’s services or use Airtel itself which gives free unlimited data plan for the first month.

Unlimited Local Calls from Dolphin to any MTNL network

September 27, 2007 By yogen 1 Comment

The GSM division of MTNL has recently launched a tariff plan where Dolphin users can make unlimited local calls to Dolphin/Trump/Garuda/WLL/MTNL networks. This scheme is similar to the scheme MTNL had launched some time back under its brand Garuda. There’s an activation charge of Rs. 250 (which is currently waived off for a period of 3 months) and a deposit of Rs. 500 needs to be kept with MTNL.

The bill will include a monthly rental of Rs. 499 which is a sought of indirect charge the customer needs to pay for the unlimited usage to MTNL based phones. Local calls to all other networks will be charged at Re. 1 and calls to MTNL based phones in Delhi will also be charged Re. 1.

Overall the scheme is good and the biggest plus point is that you can choose any of the GSM handsets available in the market which was not possible with Garuda. Existing customers can also shift to this plan by paying the activation charges. So, if you’ll like the scheme then activate it within a span of 3 months so that you can save the initial activation charges.

Airtel Jaya He

Airtel’s hearing us! Few weeks ago Airtel had launched Jaya He prepaid scheme. The scheme gave attractive call rates but the biggest downfall of this were that the call rates of Jaya He were only given to new subscribers and also the cost of buying a Jaya He SIM card did not include any talk time nor validity.

Realising the blunder they had made initially, Airtel is now providing the call rates of Jaya He pack to all the existing users who recharge their account with Rs. 610 denomination. The recharge carries a talk time of Rs. 350 and a validity of 30 days. For the new users who buy a new Jaya He SIM will get Rs. 400 worht of talk time which will be valid for 30 days.

Difference between a Public and Private operator

September 24, 2007 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

In India there’s always a fight between the Private and Public players, especially in the Telecom Sector. Here the public sectors with their low cost plans tried to rope in customers but to their disappointment could not manage to do so, at least in the urban areas. Though the public operators may be having huge number of users, they fail to keep up to the pace of the changing trends.

Just check out MTNL’s site. One would not be interested to see such a site. The interface and the look is not attractive as compared to the high end sites being made by private players such as Vodafone and Airtel. Though Public players try and pull up their socks to stay in the race, they still lag behind in providing the peripheral or supplementary services, which are demanded by users today. Let’s take a simple example of the Bill Assist, which is provided by Airtel as well as MTNL. This service assists you to chose a plan according to the number of minutes you speak every month, the end objective being to provide you a plan that could give you value for money.

TRAI: Indian Mobile Subscribers in excess of 200 million

September 23, 2007 By Kunal Gangar Leave a Comment

talkingonphone.jpg

India is seeing a spurt in their wireless subscriber base. Last month, telecom service providers managed to add 8.31 million users taking the total figure to pass 200 million. Another good news is that teledensity (number of people owning a telephone connection out of every 100 people) is also increased to 21.20% as compared to July’s teledensity of 20.52%.

This magical figure took just a year and 3 months after it had crossed the 100 million mark in May 2006. Amongst the operators, Bharti Airtel took the major share in August to add more than 2 million subscribers.

This “ICE” could save your life

September 21, 2007 By Rohan Kamath Leave a Comment

We have articles on plans, schemes, offers, promotions and what not. And we thought of having something new for our readers. This one is fresh and may prove to be of great help to you. It’s a concept called ICE or “In Case of Emergency”. I personally didn’t know about this concept until I received a mail from my colleague, with a subject that read “Important Information – Must forward”. And I must say it is one piece of information, which could save your life.

Imagine a situation where one of us meets with an accident.  If you are admitted to a hospital, the person who helped you get to the hospital or the doctor would want to contact your family, from your cellphone as it is the only thing available to them. In such a case people would have no time to check all your contacts. Thus to have easy recognition of family numbers on your cellphones, this concept comes to the rescue. The solution is simple and effective. What you can do is store the numbers of your family members or other numbers whom you want to contact during such a crisis by the name of ICE. Multiple numbers could be stored by using numbers after them for example: ICE1, ICE2, etc.

This concept just needs to be passed on to people and thus lives could be saved by informing near and dear ones in time. So please do pass on the message, as anyone of us could happen to be in such a situation.
